2015 Top Health Issues Favorable for Pharmacists

December 11, 2014

On Dec. 4, 2014, PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Health Research Institute released the Top Health Industry Issues of 2015 report, and its findings were favorable for retail pharmacy. The report identified the top 10 trends that are expected to transform the industry in the coming year.

The report reflects an industry shift toward “consumer-centered, digitally enabled care,” in which pharmacists stand to play a greater role in patient care and counseling.

Trends identified in the report included consumer-driven, cost-efficient innovations in patient care, concern for privacy, pressure for transparency and a push for more care services performed by physician “extenders,” such as nurse practitioners and pharmacists.

“In 2015, the healthcare sector will begin to look and feel like other industries, catering to customers expecting one-click service. A true consumer-driven market is slowly taking shape,” the report stated.
