Health Insurance Company Prioritizes Independent Pharmacies to Improve Care

A health insurance startup, Troy Medicare, is partnering with independent community pharmacists to keep its senior patients healthy.

The health insurer will work with independent community pharmacists to check in with seniors and find ways to keep them healthy and out of the hospital. The plan will prioritize independent pharmacies over chains like CVS or Walgreens.

“You can’t replace the trust seniors have in their local pharmacist,” Troy CEO Flaviu Simihaian told Business Insider. “They’re such an unused resource in our healthcare system.”
