New Federal Data Reveals Alarming Opioid Statistics

A database maintained by the Drug Enforcement Administration has tracked 76 billion oxycodone and hydrocodone pain pills sold in the United States from 2006 to 2012. The information was released as part of a civil action aimed at increasing accountability for the ongoing opioid epidemic.

The data points to six companies who distributed 75 percent of legal pain pills during this period, and three companies who manufactured 88 percent of those pills.
