September 26, 2019

The CDC and American Academy of Pediatric have announced changes to recommendations on childhood flu vaccines. Changes include modifying the age indication for Afluria Quadrivalent from five years and older to six months and older, updating the composition of the vaccines for 2019-2020 and more.

The AAP wrote in its recommendations, “Historically, up to 80% of pediatric deaths have occurred in unvaccinated children six months and older. Influenza vaccination is associated with reduced risk of laboratory-confirmed influenza-related pediatric death.”
