COVID-19 is still making its rounds around the world. Only this new variant, Nimbus, is spreading quickly in the United States. And it’s painful new symptom is something you should be aware of.
Nimbus’ lineage designation is NB.1.8.1 and is a subvariant of Omicron. Nimbus was first detected in January 2025, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Because it’s been spreading, it’s likely to become the leading variant of COVID-19 around the world. In face, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has shown that Nimbus’s spread is making fast gains throughout America.
Nimbus has many common symptoms with many that are shared by other COVID-19 variants. Symptoms include:
- A cough
- A runny nose or congestion
- Shortness of breath
- A fever or chills
- Body aches
- Fatigue
- New loss of sense of smell or taste
Those infected with Nimbus also reported an intense sore throat. Some described the sore throat as feeling like they have razor blades in their throat.
Your pharmacy cares for its patients and is there to keep them healthy. According to the CDC, the best way to help protect them is by:
- Keeping them up to date with their COVID-19 vaccinations
- Telling them the importance of practicing good hygiene
- Reminding them to let fresh air circulate throughout their house
The good news right now, according to the WHO, is that current data doesn’t indicate that the NB.1.8.1 Nimbus variant leads to more severe illness than other variants currently making rounds.
